The Silver Party was a political party, most successful in Nevada Nevada is the seventh-largest state in area, and geographically covers the Mojave Desert in the south to the Great Basin in the north. It is the most arid state in the Union. Approximately 86% of the state's land is owned by the U.S federal government under various jurisdictions both civilian and military. As of 2008, there were about 2.6 million, active from 1892-1911.[1][2] The party supported a platform of bimetallism In economics, bimetallism is a monetary standard in which the value of the monetary unit is defined as equivalent either to a certain quantity of gold or to a certain quantity of silver. Such a system establishes a fixed rate of exchange for the two metals. The merits of the system were the subject of debate in the late 19th century. Primarily and "Free Silver Free Silver was an important political issue in the late 19th century and early 20th century United States. Its advocates were in favor of an inflationary monetary policy by "free coinage of silver"; its supporters were called silverites. It largely pitted the financial establishment of the Northeast, who were creditors and would be hurt."

In 1892 the Silver Party elected several candidates to Nevada public offices. The party's success continued throughout the decade, culminating in the election of Governors John E. Jones John Edward Jones was a Governor of Nevada and Reinhold Sadler Reinhold Sadler was a governor of Nevada. Nevada was the only state to elect Senators and Congressional representatives from the Silver Party.[3]

Nationally the Silver Party aligned with the Populist Party The People's Party, also known as the "Populists" was a short-lived political party in the United States established in 1887. The party did not remain a lasting feature most probably because it had been so closely identified with the free silver movement which was not meaningful for urban voters. Currency ceased to become a major issue and to a lesser extent with the Silver Republican Party The Silver Republican Party was a United States political faction active in the 1890s. It was so named because it split from the Republican Party over the issues of "Free Silver" and bimetallism. The main Republican Party supported the gold standard. By 1902 most pro-silver factions in Nevada had been absorbed by the state Democratic Party The Democratic Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Republican Party. The party's modern liberal platform is largely considered center-left in the U.S. political spectrum. It is one of the world's oldest political parties and boasts the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the United organization.
