In politics, an independent or non-party politician is an individual not affiliated to any political party. Independents may hold a centrist viewpoint between those of major political parties, or they may have a viewpoint based on issues that they do not feel that any major party addresses. Other independent candidates are associated with a political party and may be former members of it, but choose not to stand under its label. A third category of independents are those who may belong to or support a political party but believe they should not formally represent it and thus be subject to its policies. Finally, some independent candidates may form a political party for the purposes of running for public office. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Independent (politician)" Do you consider Lebanon today a sovereign, free, and independent country? Q. The law of the jungle is the rule and the principal reason is the Syrian occupation that has succeeded over the years in Syrianizing Lebanon and converting it into a police desert-like state that is as bleak and depressing as the Syrian regime and the other desert-like Arab regimes. It succeeded, as part of this program, in installing the scum of Lebanese politicians in the decision-making positions. Asked by JerryKing - Sun Mar 18 06:55:49 2007 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. No. Iran seems to be pulling a lot of the strings in Lebanon vis a vis Hizballah. Until Lebanon rids itself of the Iranian yoke, then I can't see how it can be considered to be completely sovereign. Answered by Itay Lahad - Sun Mar 18 07:43:14 2007 is lieberman a true independent? ? Q. does lieberman represent you as an independent? *cough* *puke* *cough* what business does this politician have being at the rnc? what does it say about both parties when 8 years ago he was on the democratic ticket? careful with your answer. is anyone else tired of his whiny doublespeak and encouraging more war? a side question: what was the cartoon character that people compare lieberman's way of speaking too? i believe it was a lion or something? yeah it's kind of ominous how much influence the pnac has had over the last decade or so. lieberman is neocon. i suspect obama or biden have some ties as well and of course mccain has. politics as usual; how are we as americans really going to 'take back' our government when it is lobbyists… [cont.] Asked by xx x - Tue Sep 2 17:09:41 2008 - - 8 Answers - 2 Comments A. No, he's clearly a Neoconservative. It's very telling about the Democratic party they put this Neocon on their Presidential ticket. Why would the Republicans have to steal an election if that's what the Democrats not only tolerate but put on their ticket? He's a leading member of the Neocon "think tank" The Committee on the Present Danger that is pushing for war with Iran no less than the PNAC was pushing for war with Iraq as early as 1998 sending President Clinton a letter he should invade signed by a lot of future Bush administration members including Rumsfield If the Democrats want to ever be a real progressive alternative they should throw Neoconservative submarines and traitors like Lieberman out instead of pampering and… [cont.] Answered by justgoodfolk - Tue Sep 2 17:16:02 2008 Is independent thinking a thing of the past?
Q. It seems like people now, instead of judging for themselves the policies of the politicians in Washington join one side or the other, and defend their party's platform, even as the politicians on both sides abandon their supposed platforms and assume the same agenda, democrat or republican. It doesn't take a genius to see that there is very little difference on substantial issues between Republican top-tier candidates and democrat top-tier candidates. They debate irrelevant issues that might as well be whether Bud Light tastes great or is less filling.
